ESPN’s Dianna Russini reported that the Saints felt confident that Brees would be able to start this week after a positive workout with trainers Monday — and that he continued to look good throughout the we Buy NFL Jerseys China, ek.

Earlier this season, Saints coach Sean Payton declined to reveal who would serve as the team’s emergency quarterback if needed. One likely candidate is running back Alvin Kamara, who has already lined up at quarterback in some Wildcat packages this season and is 1-of-1 passing for his career for 13 yards.

The Saints placed backup quarterback Jameis Winston on the NFL’s reserve/COVID-19 list Sunday morning, meaning he won’t be available for Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Saints now have just two quarterbacks on their active roster — starter Drew Brees and backup Taysom Hill — after they released veteran Trevor Siemian on Saturday. That means Hill’s typical role as a runner and receiver on offense could be limited.

The plan was for Winston to serve as Brees’ backup so that Hill could be featured in other roles.

“In terms of Benjamin working a different position [Friday], we’re going to work different guys at a variety of things right now,” Giants coach Joe Judge said. “He’s a big guy. He’s always been a big receiver. He’ll work receiver. He’s working a little bit flex tight end as well.

“I wouldn’t really kind of, you know, pin him down to any one position at this point. We’re going to use the weekend to move him around to different spots and see how it works out.”

It was just three years ago during a Monday Night Football broadcast that ESPN analyst Booger McFarland famously declared Benjamin was “probably a Popeyes biscuit away from being a tight end.”

Benjamin, 30, has spent time with the Panthers, Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs. He has 209 career receptions for 3,021 yards and 20 touchdowns. The 28th overall pick in 2014 was drafted in Carolina by current Giants general manager Dave Gettleman.

Clement, 26, spent the first four seasons of his professional career with the Eagles. He has been slowed in recent years by injury but is best known for his performance in Super Bowl LII, when he had 100 receiving yards and a touchdown in the Eagles’ upset win over the New England Patriots. Clement also helped execute the Philly Special, a trick play that resulted in a touchdown reception by quarterback Nick Foles.

The Giants needed veteran depth at running back. With Saquon Barkley coming back from a serious knee injury, the Giants signed Devontae Booker as a free agent and drafted Gary Brightwell in the sixth round.

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan reflects on his career, potential future without WR Julio Jones

But he believes he still is playing well coming off a season in which he completed 65% of his passes for 4,581 yards, 26 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Buy 2 Ryan Matt NFL Jerseys, That stat line is in line with how Ryan has been the majority of his time in Atlanta Buy Atlanta Falcons NFL Jerseys, . He has completed 65% or more of his throws every year since 20 Cheap NFL kids jerseys, 12.

And, as his career has progressed, he has gained a new perspective on his successes and accomplishments.

“You realize how hard it is at this age,” Ryan said. “You appreciate the success probably more now. I’ve never really been motivated — you want to win, but I really hated losing more than I loved winning. It would eat at you more, and I think that only intensifies the older you get because you realize your opportunities are limited.”

Ryan doesn’t believe his window is limited, though, pointing to Tampa Bay quarterback Tom Brady and his continued strong play. But he understands where he is in the timeline of his career and that, once again, he has to prove himself with a new coaching staff — this time led by former Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Arthur Smith.

Ryan, who is on his third head coach, said every time a new regime comes in, he knows there’s a level of question. Will they like him still? What will they think of what he has done in the past, and what he can do in the future? Atlanta did restructure his contract in March, which could have offered a clue as to the team’s plans for Ryan, but it didn’t change his mindset.

“You’re constantly trying to prove that you’re the right person for this spot,” Ryan said. “I was told at a young age, from some veteran players in that locker room, you don’t own that locker. You rent it. So I try to pay my rent on time all the time and do the best that I can do to stay in that spot.”

Through the past decade, one of the players who helped Ryan the most is receiver Julio Jones. Jones has been targeted more, has caught more passes for more yards and more touchdowns from Ryan, than any other Falcons player.

And Jones’ future with Atlanta is in question. General manager Terry Fontenot said last month that the team has taken calls on possibly trading the star receiver because of the Falcons’ salary-cap situation. While Ryan said he understands the business part of it, and he has no involvement in those decisions, he made clear Jones’ influence on Ryan’s own career. And he doesn’t know what a post-Jones offense would look like.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers settle franchise tag grievance with Shaq Barrett for $1.372 million, source says

Not only was Buccaneers star pass-rusher Shaquil Barrett awarded a new four-year contract worth up to $72 million Monday, he also was awarded a $1.372 million franchise tag settlement stemming from a grievance filed with the NFL Players Association last year, a source told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Barrett on Wednesday confirmed a settlement was reached but didn’t disclose the terms.

“It means a lot that we was able to go through there and not have to actually go to the grievance. That was just a sign of good faith on both sides. We didn’t want to have to go all the way through with a grievance, so we was able to end up settling on a good number,” he said Tuesday in a Zoom call.

“And they knew they wanted to bring me back, so they didn’t want to really have to go through all that type of stuff, and I didn’t want to go through it either because I wanted to be here. And even though I know it’s a business, we just took that part of it out of there. We just made it easy, made it simple to start working on a long-term contract, and we was able to do it.”

The settlement money will count against the Bucs’ salary cap in 2021. There will be no grievance hearing, which would have been the next step. The Bucs opted to settle it, and in turn, Barrett can recoup the lost earnings.cheap nike nfl jerseys wholesale

The grievance stems from the NFL not differentiating between outside and inside linebackers when calculating franchise tag amounts, nor does it take into consideration scheme. Franchise tag figures are based on the top five salaries at each position.4

Barrett is technically an outside linebacker in defensive coordinator Todd Bowles’ 3-4 scheme, but his job is primarily to rush the passer, like that of a 4-3 defensive end, versus dropping into coverage in the short passing game.

In 2020, the franchise tag amount for linebackers was $15.828 million, whereas it was $17.788 million for defensive ends.

A closer look at Barrett’s snap counts supports his argument.

Over the past two seasons — including the 2020 postseason — Barrett played a total of 171 of 1,851 snaps (9.238%) in coverage and 1,086 snaps (58.67%) rushing the passer (the remaining 594 snaps came against the run). By comparison, inside linebacker Lavonte David played a total of 1,342 snaps in coverage and 207 snaps rushing the passer.

“I think it should be pretty simple if you pass rush more than half the time, but you stand up sometimes too, you should just be called ‘edge.’ If you’re an outside guy on the end pass rushing, you should be just be an ‘edge rusher.’ I understand the 4-3 defense, 3-4 defense, but you can just simplify it as much as you want to, to just — if you’re on the edge rushing on 50% of your snaps, you’re an edge rusher,” Barrett said.new nike nfl jerseys cheap

Barrett also said Wednesday he really didn’t entertain offers from other teams before agreeing to his four-year deal Monday, despite the Bucs’ less-than-favorable salary-cap situation.

“Honestly, I was just all focused on coming back here, returning back here, and we was running it to the ground trying to get something done,” he said.

“We had a great team, we had a great team and it’s like, no reason to not want to try to bring it back and try to do it again, but do it even better this time. Jason Licht — he’s a world-class GM. I applaud every move he’s been making since day one that we’ve been here. He’s been doing it the right way he’s been building steadily, and now that we have a championship team, he’s trying to bring it back and have a championship team again next year.”

Miami Dolphins add to cornerback depth with Justin Coleman, source says

The Miami Dolphins are adding former Detroit Lions cornerback Justin Coleman on a one-year deal worth up to $2.75 million, a source confirmed to ESPN on Wednesday.

The Dolphins also agreed to a two-year contract with former New England Patriots defensive tackle Adam Butler, sources confirmed to ESPN.

Coleman, 27, started 16 games — mostly in the slot — in his two seasons with the Lions before he was released, breaking up 14 passes with one interception. He also had three forced fumbles and a fumble recovery, all in 2019.nfl nike jersey cheap

He is expected to compete with Noah Igbinoghene and Nik Needham for a backup spot with the Dolphins.3

Coleman signed a four-year, $36 million contract with the Lions during free agency in 2019, making him one of the league’s highest-paid slot corners at the time.

He went undrafted out of Tennessee and has played two seasons each in New England, Seattle and Detroit, appearing in 79 games (29 starts) and breaking up 41 passes with four interceptions and two returned for touchdowns. He also has forced four fumbles, recovered four fumbles and scored a touchdown on a fumble recovery.

Butler spent the first four years of his NFL career in New England, including two with Dolphins coach Brian Flores. He joins what’s become a stout Dolphins defensive tackle room with Christian Wilkins, Raekwon Davis and Zach Sieler.

Butler, who had four sacks and six tackles for loss last season, is likely to take on a rotational role adding depth and competition. He will replace Dolphins defensive tackle Davon Godchaux, who agreed to a larger deal with the Patriots on Monday.cheap nike nfl jerseys wholesale

In another move Wednesday, the Dolphins reached agreement with veteran wide receiver Robert Foster, his agency, SportsTrust Advisors, announced. Foster has averaged 20.1 yards per catch in limited NFL opportunities with the Buffalo Bills and Washington Football Team and seems set to compete for a roster spot. Foster played his last year at Alabama with Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

Buffalo Bills extend contract of safety Micah Hyde through 2023

The Buffalo Bills and safety Micah Hyde have agreed to a two-year contract extension, the team announced Friday, keeping him in Buffalo through the 2023 season.

The two-year extension is worth $19.25 million. Hyde also received a $7.5 million signing bonus.

A Pro Bowler in 2017, Hyde is among the leaders on the Bills’ defense and forms one of the league’s top safety duos alongside Jordan Poyer.

Hyde, 30, was scheduled to become a free agent after the 2021 season. Now he, Poyer and cornerback Tre’Davious White are signed through at least the 2022 season. The trio came to Buffalo during the same offseason, and Hyde said they focused on changing the culture within the organization.nfl nike jersey cheap

Having reached the AFC Championship Game four years into his tenure, Hyde said he wasn’t interesting in leaving what he’d helped build.

“We felt like when we got there in ’17, the organization obviously wasn’t where we’d want it to be, and I thought the last couple years we were able to turn the thing around,” he said. “I would’ve had a big empty pit in my stomach if I were to have ended up anywhere else, because this team is headed in the right direction.”

Drafted by the Green Bay Packers in 2013, Hyde left following the 2016 season after the Packers told him at midseason they would not re-sign him. Hyde said that experience “left a scar” and that he “can’t even put into words” what his first contract extension means to him.2

“It was a pivotal point in my career to where I really looked myself in the mirror and said, ‘We’ve got to really change this thing and get better,'” he said. “I think with the opportunity I got in Buffalo, it just came hand in hand.”

Since joining the Bills in 2017, Hyde is the team’s third-leading tackler with 282 combined tackles and ranks third with nine interceptions and 25 passes defended. He finished with 70 tackles and an interception in 2020.

In addition to his contributions on the field, Hyde often tried to play recruiter over the past few seasons to no avail. He said anyone interested in joining the Bills is more than welcome to, but he hasn’t forgotten the number of times his offers were turned down in the past.

“I would talk to some free-agent guys that I’m close with, we’d have conversations and they’re going on visits,” Hyde said. “I’d say, ‘Hey, man, come to Buffalo,’ and they’re like, ‘I’m cool, I’m gonna go somewhere else.’cheap nfl jerseys china nike

“Well at the end of the day, I bet you they’re pretty pissed off they didn’t take those visits with Buffalo because they’re probably sitting on a trash team or sitting on a couch somewhere else. That’s kind of my vent, as you can tell, I’m a little mad at being turned down so many times and guys kind of throwing us under the rug.”

Bills GM Brandon Beane foreshadowed an extension during his end-of-season news conference, proclaiming his admiration for Hyde.

“I didn’t see any drop-off from Micah this year, so I can’t say I think he’s declining or anything like that,” Beane said. “I’m a big fan of Micah Hyde, just what he brings not only on the field but in our building. You guys feel me. One of the most positive personalities to be around and just a super-competitive guy. You wouldn’t feel that when you’re just talking to him in an interview. He probably doesn’t feel competitive in a one-on-one conversation.

“But when he’s on that field, he’s one of the most competitive guys, and that’s what you love about him. I think he still definitely will play for years in this league if he wants to.”

Denver Broncos placing franchise tag on safety Justin Simmons

The Denver Broncos are placing the franchise tag on safety Justin Simmons for the second consecutive season, it was announced Friday.

Simmons, who was poised to become an unrestricted free agent, becomes the first player to be tagged this offseason. The Broncos now have until July 15 to work out a long-term deal.

“Designating Justin with the franchise tag is a procedural move that allows us to continue working on a long-term deal,” general manager George Paton said in a statement Friday. We are completely focused on making sure Justin remains a big part of the Denver Broncos for many years to come.”nike nfl jersey cheap

NFL teams have until Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET to place the franchise tag on their most valuable player.1

Simmons, the Broncos’ third-round pick in the 2016 draft, played on the franchise player tag in 2020, worth $11.4 million. He finished with 96 tackles and five interceptions. It was his third consecutive 90-tackle season. He has consistently been an active player in run defense along the line of scrimmage with the versatility to match up on a variety of players in coverage.

The 27-year-old has the combination of on-field performance and off-field community engagement, given that he has played every defensive snap for each of the past three seasons and was the Broncos’ nominee this past season for the Walter Payton Man of the Year award.

When Paton was hired in January, Broncos president of football operations John Elway said trying to re-sign Simmons was “one of the biggest things” Paton had on his to-do list.

Simmons has consistently been one of the most active players in the community and one of the team’s leading voices in social justice initiatives.nfl nike jersey cheap He has won the Darrent Williams Good Guy Award, given out by the Denver chapter of the Pro Football Writers of America each season to a Broncos player to recognize professionalism and depth in interactions with the media.
