Dolphins rookie defensive lineman Christian Wilkins was ejected for throwing a punch at Buffalo Bills offensive lineman Cody Ford less than a minute into Miami’s 31-21 loss to the Bills on Sunday.
Wilkins got into an extended push-and-shove battle with Ford following the second play of the game. Then Wilkins proceeded to swing and connect with Ford’s helmet. He was immediately penalized and ejected.cheap nfl jerseys nike
“I was extremely selfish. This is the ultimate team sport. It’s not just about me,” Wilkins said. “I don’t think I’ve ever been more disappointed in myself about something, especially something that was in my control. Really, really shouldn’t have happened. There’s no place for it in this game and that’s not the standard I hold myself to because I just love this game, I try to respect this game as much as possible, play it as competitively as possible. This game was meant to be competitive, not combative. I really let myself down and my teammates down in just a selfish moment so early in the game.”
Dolphins coach Brian Flores said he already talked to Wilkins.
“You want to win a game on the road in a tough environment, the first thing you need to do is try to play penalty-free and play a disciplined ballgame,” he said. “We didn’t do that right from the start. I expect more out of Christian.”
Wilkins’ ejection is the eighth disqualification of an NFL player from a game during the 2019 regular season, tied for the most through seven weeks over the past 15 years.cheap nfl nike jerseys china
Despite happening just 31 seconds into the game, Wilkins’ ejection isn’t the quickest in NFL history. Jeremiah Trotter and Kevin Mathis were ejected on the opening kickoff of a 2005 game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Atlanta Falcons.
The Bills scored a field goal on their opening drive, aided by the Wilkins penalty.
Wilkins, the 13th overall pick out of Clemson, has started every game on the defensive line this season.
