Ellsbury was initially placed on the 10-day disabled list on March 29 with a right oblique strain and would have been eligible to be activated this week had he not suffered a setback.

The Yankees are also dealing with injuries to several other outfielders.

Clint Frazier was diagnosed with a concussion in late February, and lingering symptoms have kept him on the disabled list through the start of the regular season.

On Tuesday, Boone said Frazier has been running the bases and tracking pitches and is “hopefully very close” to making his return, per MLB.com’s Bryan Hoch.

On top of that, promising youngster Billy McKinney was placed on the disabled list March 31 with a left shoulder sprain after he crashed into the outfield wall at Rogers Centre trying to make a catch against the Toronto Blue Jays.
