The Indianapolis Colts will have to alter their offensive approach yet again.
NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported Sunday night that wide receiver Devin Funchess suffered a broken collarbone during the Colts’ 30-24 overtime loss to the Los Angeles Chargers to open their regular season.nike nfl jerseys cheap china
“Funchess will get a second opinion on his scans, but as of now my understanding is surgery is likely,” Pelissero added.
When Funchess was ruled out for the remainder of the game, it was classified as a shoulder injury. Prior to his exit, the 25-year-old had caught three of his five targets for 32 yards.
The 2015 second-round pick was beginning his first season in Indianapolis after spending the first four years of his career with the Carolina Panthers. His most productive campaign came in 2017 when he recorded 840 yards and eight touchdowns on 63 catches across 16 regular-season games.nfl cheap jerseys nike
The Colts signed Funchess to a one-year contract in March.
Indy’s offense first took a new shape when quarterback Andrew Luck surprisingly announced his retirement from the league on Aug. 24 due to an accumulation of injuries throughout his six-year NFL tenure.
The Colts moved forward by signing Jacoby Brissett to a two-year, $30 million extension as their new starter.
Now that injury has struck again, head coach Frank Reich will have to adapt once more. In Funchess’ absence, the team will likely feature second-year sixth-round pick Deon Cain and rookie second-rounder Parris Campbell as complements to No. 1 receiver T.Y. Hilton.
Indianapolis travels to Tennessee to take on the Titans next Sunday afternoon.
