Two charged over July attack on Ozil, Kolasinac

Two men have been charged over the attempted carjacking of Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil and Sead Kolasinac in London in July.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed in statement on Tuesday that the two men, Ashley Smith (30) and Jordan Northover (26), were charged with attempted robbery and threatening a person with an offensive weapon in a public place. Smith was also charged with possession of class B drugs (cannabis).cheap nfl nike jerseys china

In July, the two Arsenal players were pulling up to the home of Kolasinac when the two assailants approached the car brandishing knives.5

In a video that captured the event, Kolasinac can be seen fending off the masked aggressors, with a source telling ESPN that Ozil stayed in the car to protect his wife.

Ozil then sped off and was followed by the attackers for about five minutes before arriving at Likya, a Turkish restaurant he likes to frequent in the nearby area of Golders Green, said the source. Employees of the restaurant emerged to help Ozil and confront the attackers.cheap nike nfl jerseys wholesale

The pair missed Arsenal’s 1-0 season-opening win over Newcastle at St. James’ Park due to what Arsenal called “further security incidents” related to the attempted carjacking.

Vikings, Thielen agree to 4-year, $64M extension

Two-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Adam Thielen has agreed to a four-year contract extension with the Minnesota Vikings, the team announced on Friday afternoon.

The details of Thielen’s new deal were revealed in an Instagram post by Team IFA, the agency that represents the 28-year-old receiver. Thielen is set to make $64 million with the extension on a deal worth up to $73 million with incentives. NFL Network is reporting that Thielen received $35 million in guaranteed money.nike nfl jerseys cheap paypal

The Vikings’ front office continued their tendency of rewarding players with lucrative extensions years before their contracts are up. Thielen, who had two years remaining on the four-year extension he signed in March 2017, had outplayed his current contract — which was set to pay him around $8 million in 2019. He will now be making an average of $16 million per year.

Thielen is one of eight players under contract in Minnesota through the 2022 season, a list that also includes Anthony Barr, Stefon Diggs, Everson Griffen, Danielle Hunter, Eric Kendricks, Linval Joseph and Xavier Rhodes.1

Thielen’s rise from an undrafted free agent who joined the Vikings after a rookie tryout in May 2013 has been well documented. The Pro Bowler is coming off back-to-back 1,000-yard receiving seasons, marking a career-high 1,373 yards (fourth most in franchise history) and 113 receptions (third most in franchise history) and nine receiving touchdowns in 2018.

Last season, the former Division II product became the first player in NFL history to record eight consecutive games with 100-plus receiving yards to start a season.cheap nike nfl jerseys wholesale

According to the NFL Players Association public salary-cap report, the Vikings have just over $2 million in cap space. Before Thielen signed his extension, the wide receiver was on the books with an $8.1 million cap hit for 2019. It’s possible that his number remains close to that, even with the extension, but it could be lowered, allowing the Vikings the flexibility to make other offseason moves and pay their draft class later this month.

With Thielen’s new deal expected to keep him in Minnesota through the 2024 season, the Vikings get to retain one of the league’s best receiving duos. Both Thielen and Diggs were the first Minnesota wideouts to both reach 1,000 yards receiving in the same season in 2018 since Hall of Famers Randy Moss and Cris Carter achieved the same feat in 2000.

Chiefs-Colts: Patrick Mahomes vs. Andrew Luck an unprecedented matchup

Saturday’s divisional-round playoff game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Indianapolis Colts at Arrowhead Stadium offers some interesting angles, but none better than the first matchup between quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes and Andrew Luck.

They were the top two in the regular season in passing touchdowns, Mahomes with 50 in his first season as a starter, Luck with 39 in his first season back from an ailing shoulder that kept him sidelined for the 2017 season. Their 89 combined touchdown passes are the most ever in a playoff matchup.nike nfl jerseys for cheap

Luck has momentum after leading the Colts to a 21-7 road victory over the Houston Texans in the wild-card round. Mahomes had a fantastic debut season, becoming the second player in NFL history to throw 50 touchdowns and for at least 5,000 yards.

But Mahomes has never played in a playoff game. He was a backup as a rookie during last season’s wild-card loss to the Tennessee Titans.

So Mahomes is still a playoff unknown.1

“Everything is a little faster in the playoffs,” coach Andy Reid said. “That’s how things go. At the same time, he’s got to be himself and continue to play and lead like he’s been doing. I don’t think he’ll have a problem with that. I think he understands that. He’s wired the right way to handle all of it.”cheap nike nfl jerseys china

Despite being a backup, Mahomes received a primer on how the playoffs work in last season’s game against the Titans. The Chiefs led 21-3 at halftime and appeared well on their way to the next round.

The Titans dominated the second half, scoring all 19 points and winning 22-21.

“Every possession counts,” Mahomes said. “Every play counts. You have to find ways to win. It’s all about who goes out there and plays a full game and finds a way to win in the end.

LeBron James takes control of the Lakers

His scoring is way up and his impact on Los Angeles Lakers games has surged, too. Not coincidentally, they’ve been winning more. They’ve won seven of 10 even after their 32-point loss to the Denver Nuggets.

Is it because he has become more comfortable in his new surroundings? Sure, that probably is playing some role.

Is it because his teammates are learning how to play alongside him and vice versa? No doubt.cheap nike nfl jerseys china

But that doesn’t seem to be the real basis of it. What seems to have gotten James back into the groove is that he’s back in his comfort zone playing lots of point guard again. It hasn’t been framed this way but that’s what he has been doing increasingly as the season has aged, and especially after Rajon Rondo went down because of a broken hand.

Since Rondo had to leave a game in Portland and subsequently have surgery, James is handling the ball almost a minute more per game than before, according to Second Spectrum’s tracking data. This is a significant spike because the Lakers have so many possessions where they push the ball in transition that ballhandling stats can be a little skewed. During this span James has increased his scoring average five points a game.1

In fact, his stats have improved across the board, especially his shooting, which has soared since Rondo went down. The Lakers are benefiting. Even “official starting point guard” Lonzo Ball is filling the lanes on fast breaks and coming out of his shell at James’ urging.cheap nike nfl jerseys wholesale

Advance scouts who have been tracking the Lakers report that Ball frequently becomes an off guard when James is in the game with him. It’s enough to wonder if this arrangement is truly their destiny of playing together in the future, especially if Ball is able to improve his outside shooting and show a willingness to drive the ball, as he has in recent games. Though Ball suffered a sprained ankle Tuesday, which may slow him down temporarily and add even more ball-handling duty for James in the near term.

This is probably because having the ball and controlling the offense is the way James has been conditioned to play for most of the past 15 seasons. He has won MVPs and titles operating as the de facto point guard. That’s who he is, even if it has a tendency to mentally and physically exhaust him at times.

James grumbled to Cavs management about the need to have more playmakers on the roster to ease this burden in recent years. It wasn’t that the Cavs coaches and front office ignored him — it was just that all their data showed they were better when James was the primary playmaker. They were sorry/not sorry about not taking the ball from him.

Aaron Rodgers, Packers’ offense could look different after bye

Aaron Rodgers could look a little different when he returns next week from the Green Bay Packers’ bye.

If all goes well, the quarterback will play his next game without the restrictive brace he has worn on his injured left knee.

Rodgers said he discussed that with team physician Dr. Pat McKenzie right after Monday night’s 33-30 last-second win over the San Francisco 49ers.cheap nfl nike jersey

“Yeah, I just told Doc, I’d love to take the brace off after the bye,” Rodgers said after the game. “But we’ll see how I respond tomorrow and this week and next week and probably get some sort of image of it again. But that would be nice to be feeling great come next week Wednesday.”12

What could that mean for a Packers offense that has already relied heavily on its banged-up quarterback in the first six games?

“Well, I think it’s just stating the obvious: If you’re [not] wearing a brace, it’s definitely, it gives you more free range,” Packers coach Mike McCarthy said Tuesday. “Those are all medical decisions, and we’ll work through that. We’ll just see where he is. I’m sure that he’s anxious to get that brace off.”

Considering what the Packers (3-2-1) face after this week’s bye — four out of five on the road starting with at the Rams and at the Patriots and ending at the Seahawks and at Minnesota after a home game against Miami — any improvement in Rodgers’ knee and overall health would be welcome.cheap nfl jerseys china nike

Monday night’s game was Rodgers’ fifth straight with at least 40 passing attempts; he completed 25 of 46 passes for 425 yards with two touchdowns and a passer rating of 100.4. He is now two games shy of tying the single-season record for consecutive games with 40-plus pass attempts, held by Drew Bledsoe in 1995, according to ESPN Stats & Information.

Before this current five-game streak, Rodgers had never attempted that many passes in more than three straight games.

To be sure, the Packers’ slow starts have put Rodgers in a must-throw situation. That’s not entirely new, but this season has taken it to another level. Since 2015, the Packers’ first-through-third-quarter scoring differential is minus-91, which ranks 20th in the NFL, but their fourth-quarter differential is plus-105, best in the league over that stretch.

Substitutions save Mexico in back-and-forth win over Costa Rica

This was a flawed, but ultimately satisfactory night for Mexico. The 3-2 victory over Costa Rica ended a streak of four consecutive losses and after being down 2-1 at half-time, El Tri should be happy with what was a positive second-half display.

The difference between the first 45 minutes and the second for Mexico?cheap nike nfl jersey Coach Ricardo “Tuca” Ferretti’s substitutions.

Ferretti stated on the eve of the game that he was still considering whether to start any of the seven Europe-based players and he ultimately decided not to. The resulting starting XI was all Mexico-based and had an average age of 23 years, with nine of the eleven aged 25 or under. On the other side, Keylor Navas-led 6Costa Rica wasn’t far from being full-strength, with new head coach Gustavo Matosas looking on from the stands in Estadio Universitario.

Ferretti’s substitutions, however, changed the game. Striker Henry Martin and winger Jurgen Damm were brought on at half-time and combined to level the score at 2-2 in the 56th minute, with Damm providing the cross for Martin to head in.

After an hour, Jesus “Tecatito” Corona and Raul Jimenez entered the field as Mexico chased the game.

It worked. Martin drew a foul in the penalty area from David Guzman in the 70th and Jimenez stepped up to net what turned out to be the winning goal in front of 35,827 — six thousand below the capacity of the stadium.cheap nfl jerseys china nike

It turned out to be an exciting game, one which gave us some insight into where these young national team players are at.

The answer was seen in the second half as Mexico wrestled the game from Costa Rica directly because more experience came onto the field. This crop of young Mexico players is still green, but they’ll gain vital experience from nights like this.

Alex Smith gives Redskins new look, new Week 1 outcome

The beauty of Alex Smith, and what the Washington Redskins hoped to have in their new quarterback, was evident Sunday. He avoided bad plays and made good ones with his smarts, his legs, as well as with his arm.nfl nike jersey cheap

Smith was far from the only reason Washington beat Arizona 24-6 on Sunday. But he orchestrated the offense in a performance the Redskins would like to see duplicated. Of course, it helps when a team can run the ball the way Washington did Sunday, finishing with 182 yards. Then again, part of the reason Washington ran well was because of Smith’s ability to handle a heavy dose of run-pass option plays. It’s what they hoped for when making the trade for him, moving on from Kirk Cousins.

For a first game with a new quarterback, the Redskins were able to dig deep into their playbook. Why? Because they overloaded Smith at the start of camp with a heavier-than-normal installation of their offense and he showed he could handle it all. The key now will be to continue building on what they showed Sunday. The Week 1 output is even more impressive considering Washington’s offense had several key players either limited or out for much of camp because of lingering injuries and an abundance of caution.10

On Sunday, Smith completed 21-of-30 passes for 255 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran the ball eight times for 14 more yards and used his legs several other times to avoid danger, either throwing the ball away or running.

“I thought he was sensational,” Redskins coach Jay Gruden said.cheap nike nfl jersey

Smith made strong decisions, which is one reason why they turned the ball over only one time — on a late fumble by Adrian Peterson. In Gruden’s first four openers, the Redskins had lost the turnover battle each time, thanks to 10 combined giveaways. Gruden mentioned the turnover stat leading into the game whenever he was asked about being 0-4 in openers.

Smith also avoided a safety when, with Robert Nkemdiche bursting clean through the middle, he flipped an underhand pass to receiver Josh Doctson. It was a pass that had no chance of being complete, but it saved the Redskins two points.

“That’s what he’s done his whole career,” Gruden said. “He does a great job not making a bad play worse and living to fight another day and moving on to the next play. That’s what he’s always done.”
