Cubs GM Jed Hoyer disappointed in rotation’s struggles

As if on cue, Tyler Chatwood backed up those comments with a rare performance against the St. Louis Cardinals in a 5-3 loss: 4.2 innings pitched, seven strikeouts and seven walks. According to ESPN Stats & Information data, only two pitchers compiled nfl jerseys for cheap at least seven and seven in less than five innings pitched last year. Before that, it hadn’t happened since 2008. It meant throwing a lot of pitches — 97 — in a short outing, not exactly what fielders want when the temperature is 35 degrees at first pitch.

“I just have to be better with my command,” Chatwood said after the loss. “That’s the thing that’s hurt me so far. It was cold, but I could grip the ball.

“Our guys have to get back in there to hit and I’m leaving them standing there in the cold for a while. … That’s not a good recipe for success right there I don’t think.”

Chatwood isn’t the only disappointment in the starting staff so far, as his record dropped to 0-3 with his new team, despite giving up just one hit. The Cubs’ vaunted rotation — at least on paper — ranks near the bottom of the league after averaging just five innings per start through their first 15 games.206

That’s just one-third of an inning more than the worst team in that category, the Tampa Bay Rays.

“It’s going to happen,” Cubs manager Joe Maddon said about longer outings. “I’m fully confident it’s going to happen. The starters are really good. There is a lot to look forward to with the starters.”

The Cubs had a slow beginning to last season on the mound, eventually righting the ship in the second half — and that includes their starting staff. But last year, they had the championship hangover to get over; this year, it’s just cold weather and some postponements. But every team has dealt with the same cheap nfl authentic jerseys conditions, some thriving better than others.

The Cubs have limped out of the gate at 7-8 and can partly blame the uneven play on a rotation that boasts three former all-stars in Jon Lester, Yu Darvish and Jose Quintana. None has looked his best thus far.

Jaylen Brown youngest in Celtics history to score 30 in a playoff game

Celtics second-year swingman Jaylen Brown authentic nfl jerseys cheap became the youngest player in franchise history to score 30 points or more in a playoff game during Tuesday’s Game 2 triumph over the Milwaukee Bucks.

Brown scored a postseason career-high 30 points on 12-of-22 shooting while helping the Celtics run away with a 120-106 triumph in an Eastern Conference first-round series at TD Garden.

The Celtics lead the best-of-seven series 2-0.

At age 21 years, 175 days, Brown topped a record that Celtics legend Tommy Heinsohn held for six decades after scoring 30 points at age 22 years, 209 days against the Syracuse Nationals on March 23, 1957.

Per Basketball Reference, the only active players to score 30 points or more in a playoff game at a younger age than Brown are Derrick Rose, Brandon Jennings and LeBron James.193

“I think Jaylen loves the moment,” said Celtics coach Brad Stevens. “I think he really appreciated the opportunity to compete on this stage and at this level. And we’ve seen him against the better teams in the league all year be able to really raise his level in some of the biggest games.”

Brown set a new career high with 12 field goals, and he connected on 5 of 12 3-pointers.

“I put a lot of time in this summer and over the course of the year just improving, offensively,” Brown said. “Just coming into the draft, that was one of the biggest things people nitpicked me on, so that was one of the things I wanted to get better at. But I think the trust issue starts with Brad. When Brad tells you to shoot it, it gives you another level of confidence when your coach is like, ‘Shoot it!’ So when Brad tells me to shoot, I feel much better about it.”

Heinsohn, who was courtside Tuesday providing color official nfl football jerseys commentary for NBC Sports Boston, laughed when asked if he could remember his record-setting night.

Brown scored 12 first-quarter points, routinely attacking the basket, including a loud left-handed flush over former teammate Tyler Zeller. Brown came back with 10 points in the third quarter as the Celtics pulled away.

Meet the FCS prospect who became the NFL draft’s top TE

Larson had delivered Dallas Goedert, a program-changing star who would go on to be a projected first-round pick in the 2018 NFL draft. Stiegelmeier, however, wasn’t feeling it.

“The tape was really rough, actually,” he said.nfl jerseys for cheap “I saw a big guy who could control his body, but I did not see a dominant football player.”

There was no time to waste on a single prospect from a town of 1,250. Stiegelmeier stopped at Britton-Hecla High School once to watch Goedert play basketball but continued recruiting elsewhere. A few months later, Larson called again. He had just volunteered at a track meet where Goedert was tossing the discus like it was a piece of bread.

Life can turn on the chance of a random gift. Goedert wouldn’t have made it to South Dakota State without Larson’s repeated intervention. And if Goedert hadn’t made it to South Dakota State, albeit an FCS school, he would never have stuck the one-handed catch that catapulted him into the national consciousness. He wouldn’t have competed against FBS opponents such as Kansas and TCU. And, without a doubt, he would never, ever have become a projected first-round pick.

Goedert could be the first tight end selected when the draft opens April 26. The team that takes him will get 256-pound tight end with 10-inch hands like Odell Beckham Jr. and an affinity for dramatic plays. It will also take on a unique character who rides a 6-foot unicycle for fun, is ready to bust out from small-town stereotypes and isn’t opposed to wearing a leopard-print Snuggie to embarrass his sisters in public.182

“I like to bring the flair,” he said. “Fans of the city I go to will like it. If people are wondering what they’ll be getting, I’d say to think about how much fun and how much energy I’ll bring.”

You can trace Goedert’s elite receiving skills to the nighttime routine he began as an 8-year-old, when he would refuse to sleep until his stepfather, Gary Carlson, agreed to throw him footballs from his bedroom doorway.

Goedert showed up on the Brookings, South Dakota, cheap nfl jerseys campus in 2013 amid little fanfare. He redshirted his first year, then caught 34 passes over his next two seasons as he added 60 pounds. From the beginning, however, Goedert brought with him undeniable assets: big hands and a star’s mindset in deploying them.

To find gloves that fit, the school submitted a special order to Under Armour for size XXXL. With those mitts, attached to 34-inch arms on a 6-5 frame, Goedert could reach over any FCS defender.

Harry Kane on target for Tottenham but Pascal Gross earns point for Brighton

It was on this day last year that Brighton ensured their promotion from the Championship. On Tuesday night at the Amex Stadium they took a small step towards retaining their Premier League status for another season.

The fiendish nature of their run-in has been well-documented and Chris Hughton’s team must still face the Manchester clubs, Liverpool and Burnley in their final matches.nfl jerseys for cheap They needed something, anything, to allow them to breathe a little easily after a worrying run of one point from an available 15. This was it.

The horror of Saturday’s 3-2 defeat at Crystal Palace was forgotten as Brighton put their bodies on the line to earn precious reward. The roar from the home crowd at the full-time whistle told its own story. Brighton are eight points clear of third-from-bottom Southampton, although they have played a game more.

Tottenham have a bigger match round the corner in the shape of Saturday’s FA Cup semi-final against Manchester United and Mauricio Pochettino appeared to have one eye on it with his team selection. He made six changes from Saturday’s home defeat by Manchester City and omitted Davinson Sánchez and Dele Alli from the squad entirely. He gave Toby Alderweireld his first Premier League action since 28 October and the centre-half was not overly extended.169

However, Pochettino made the point yet again that the league was the priority. The personnel changes, he said, were purely down to fatigue from the City game. “If we win the FA Cup, we are not going to play Champions League,” Pochettino said. “You only do that if you finish in the top four. Today was the most important game.”

For Tottenham it felt like points dropped. Pochettino was entitled to say that his team had “dominated” the game in terms of possession and territory but he was also on the money when he lamented a “lack of aggression” in the final third. They were unable to create sufficient clear-cut chances.

Harry Kane put Spurs in front with his 26th goal of the Premier League season – cheap nfl jerseys his Golden Boot rival, Mohamed Salah of Liverpool, has 30 – but Brighton showed their strength of character with an instant riposte through Pascal Gross’s penalty. Hughton had given him the responsibility after a couple of penalty misses this season by Glenn Murray.

Andrew Benintendi stays hot at plate, Boston Red Sox rally past Orioles in chilly matinee game

157It seemed like a given that runs were going to come at a premium Sunday afternoon at Fenway Park.

Not even a scorching Red Sox offense averaging 8.9 runs over its last seven games stood much of a chance under chilling conditions, with the temperature clinging to just above freezing throughout the tilt.

Still, Boston had its chances against Orioles starter Dylan Bundy — stranding three runners in scoring position over the first four innings of play.

With the win, the Red Sox improve to 13-2 on the season, improving on the team’s best start in franchise history. Prior to 2018, the last team to start 12-2 or better was the Atlanta Braves in 2013 (13-2.)

Chris Sale earned the start for the Red Sox, holding Baltimore to just two hits and one run over five innings of work with fanning eight batters. Sale finished with 93 pitches — cheap nfl authentic jerseys standing as the fourth consecutive start in which the southpaw has not eclipsed triple digits in pitches.

The Red Sox ace’s lone blemish came in the top of the first, with Manny Machado driving a changeup from Sale into left field for a RBI double. Despite tossing 21 pitches in the opening frame, Sale settled down — tossing four no-hit innings to close out his appearance.

Benintendi’s RBI triple put Boston on the board in the fifth, while an error from Baltimore third baseman Danny Valencia allowed J.D. Martinez to reach first to lead off the sixth — setting the stage for Boston’s go-ahead runs.

A double off the bat of Moreland put runners at second and third for the Red Sox, with Bundy’s wild pitch allowing Martinez to cross home and give Boston the lead. With two outs in the inning, nfl cheap jerseys Lin jumped on a low slider from Bundy and flicked it into right, with the ball bouncing into the stands for the RBI double.

Rangers ready to go full tilt at John Tavares this summer

Jeff Gorton is getting ready for the offseason. He has his hands full with the upcoming draft, finding a new coach, and signing his restricted free agents. nfl jerseys for cheap All of which fall into the “longterm” plans for success. However, there is another road to be explored once the UFA market opens this summer.

Heading into the summer, the Rangers only have 13 players signed to a committed total of around $51,000,0000. If the salary cap rises to the lowest estimate of around $78 million, it will give them $27 million to play with. Sounds like a lot, but don’t get too excited.

The Rangers could get lucky and land one of the top 3 picks in the draft. Rasmus Dahlin, Andrei Svechnikov, and Filip Zedina all have the potential to play in the NHL next season and would come with an affordable entry level contract. While that would be a best case scenario, even if they got one there’s no guarantee the Rangers would keep them with the big club.

There are also the rumors of adding Ilya Kovalchuk on July 1st. If the numbers are really $6 million per for 2 seasons, it’s a hefty price tag. Regardless, the team is getting ready put this rebuild into warp speed in one fell swoop.

Should John Tavares hit the open market this summer, the Rangers are ready to make him one of the NHL’s richest players. It would not surprise anyone if the Rangers are ready to give him double digits and max years. An opening offer of 10 million or more is not out of the question to land the 27 year old center in his prime.

No matter how you slice it, even with some bridge deals all 5 must be re-signed and will come with a total combined price tag of around 17-20 million dollars. Gorton also needs cheap nfl authentic jerseys to retain John Gilmour but he should be relatively cheap. Once you add Alex Georgiev as Lundqvist’s backup and a player like Vinni Lettieri in place of Matt Belesky (he is signed) that’s 21 players under contract with 2 spots to fill and less than 10 million in cap space.

The math doesn’t add up to add a John Tavares alone, nonetheless Kovalchuk also. That means hard decisions will need to be made. One of these 4 roster players will need to be traded in order to make room for a bonafide NHL superstar center.

Michael Carrick key to Man United derby win over Man City – Ander Herrera

Jose Mourinho’s side were 2-0 down at half time, but battled back in the second half to win 3-2 and delay City’s title celebrations.

Carrick was not in the United squad at the Etihad Stadium but the 36-year-old club captain — who will join Mourinho’s coaching staff at the end of the season — nfl authentic jerseys still played a key role in the revival.

“The oldest guys with the most experience — Ash [Ashley Young], Mike [Carrick] were in the dressing room — they have the power in their words,” said Herrera when asked what had been behind the turnaround.

“We didn’t talk too much about tactics, just about our pride. Our pride on the pitch and that our fans were going to have a difficult night if we got beaten.

“I was thinking at half time that it was going to be difficult for them if we got beaten, so I’m happy for them.”

United’s fight back was even more remarkable given they could have found themselves even further behind at the break had City taken more of their chances.

Raheem Sterling and Ilkay Gundogan missed golden opportunities to put the game to bed and Herrera admitted he was relieved to go in just 2-0 down.

“I think the first 20-25 minutes was a balanced game,” said the Spaniard. “We didn’t suffer too much but after the goal of [Vincent] Kompany we came completely down.

“We played really bad the last 20 minutes and the best thing was the result at half time. We were just 2-0 down.

“It was not about tactics. At half time we just talked about the pride, about the club, this club you can never underestimate it. We came back and we’re very happy, cheap customized nfl jerseys but overall for our position because we want to finish second.”

Henrik, Daniel Sedin to retire after 17 years in league

Vancouver Canucks veterans Henrik and Daniel Sedin, 37, will retire after the 2017-18 season, announcing the decision jointly in a letter on the team’s website.

“We started the year with the mindset that a decision would be made in the postseason. But it became clear, after discussions with our families throughout the year, that this will be our last season. This feels right for all of us,” they wrote.

The Sedin twins have been one of the most unique offensive forces in NHL history. The Canucks maneuvered to draft winger Daniel Sedin at No. 2 and center nfl jerseys for cheap Henrik Sedin at No. 3 in the 1999 entry draft out of MoDo Ornskoldsvik in Sweden. They went on to redefine linemate chemistry, appearing to have some sort of sonar to detect the other on the ice with pinpoint passes.

Their dominant play in the offensive zone made “cycle like the Sedins” official hockey shorthand. Together, they anchored the Canucks’ top line and in the process gave a series of wingers some of their best offensive seasons.

Henrik Sedin has 1,068 points (sixth among active players) in 1,327 games, including 828 assists. Daniel Sedin has 1,038 points (seventh among active players) in 1,303 games, including 391 goals. Henrik won the 2009-10 Hart Trophy as League MVP, in part because Daniel was limited to 63 games that season; Daniel finished second in the Hart voting in 2010-11. Both Sedins have an Art Ross Trophy as the NHL’s top scorer in a season.

The brothers won Olympic gold in Turin for Sweden in 2006.

Their contracts were up after this season, and speculation was that the Sedins might return to Vancouver on one-year, incentive-laden deals. While they saw their ice time cut this year by new coach Travis Green in favor of the team’s younger stars, the Sedins played effectively: Daniel has 52 points in 78 games, while Henrik has 48 in 79 games. They also relished their roles as veteran mentors.

But the twins decided that while they’re still dedicated to Vancouver, they’ll end their NHL careers as Canucks after the season’s final three games.

“As we’ve said before, Vancouver has become home. This is our family’s home. We plan to be part of this community long after we retire. Vancouver has given us so much and we’ve tried to give everything we have in return. That won’t change,” they wrote. “In the meantime, we still have some games to play, and we still have some work to do.”

The Canucks have fallen on hard times in recent years. They have the second-fewest points in the Western Conference this season, and Vancouver hasn’t made the playoffs since 2014-15. cheap nfl jerseys But the Sedin twins have led the Canucks to the postseason 11 times. The closest they came to winning the Stanley Cup was in 2010-11, when the Canucks lost to the Bruins in seven games.

Which late-season call-up will make an impact in the playoffs?

Chris Peters, NHL prospects writer: I’m eager to see how Eeli Tolvanen fits in with the Nashville Predators, but I can’t get over how smoothly Ryan Donato has transitioned to the NHL with the Boston Bruins. Watching Donato play during the 2018 Winter Olympics, it was evident that the 21-year-old was ready for the pro ranks, as he was Team USA’s most dangerous forward in Pyeongchang. Making the jump to the NHL is another story, authentic nfl jerseys cheap but the Harvard product — whom the Bruins selected in the second round of the 2014 NHL draft, with the 56th overall pick — has wasted no time making an immediate impact in the Bruins’ lineup.

Donato has seven points, including four goals, in eight NHL games. He has shown a goal-scorer’s touch and obviously has great offensive sense, based on how he positions himself and his ability to create whether he is below the faceoff dots or around the perimeter. Donato is also generating a lot of shots on goal, which was a staple of his college career at Harvard as well, and doesn’t seem the slightest bit intimidated. It helps that he has veterans around him, but playing with — and keeping up with — established NHLers is no easy task no matter who you are. Especially when those players are rounding out into postseason form.

One other important factor in Donato’s favor is that he played 34 games between Harvard and the Olympics, so he’s probably as fresh as anyone on the team as Boston begins its playoffs push. The only question would be how he handles the rigors of a postseason grind. As a strong, well-conditioned 21-year-old, I don’t think that should be a huge concern for Donato. I thought he’d be a helpful addition when the Bruins signed him to a two-year entry-level contract on March 14 — but now I’m convinced he’ll be a legitimate contributor this postseason.

Greg Wyshynski, senior writer: If we’re asking which call-up I’m most interested in watching, that would be Lias Andersson, the New York Rangers’ world-junior-medal-chucking forward and one of the cornerstones of their rebuild of indiscriminate duration. A fascinating player, even if his ice time might be limited given that he’s young and Alain Vigneault is still coaching this team.

But the clear answer is Donato. As Chris notes above, nfl jerseys for cheap Donato hit the ice in the NHL after playing extensively with Harvard and the U.S. Olympic team this season, so he’s in midseason stride at a time when many players are checking to see how close to “E” they are on their fuel gauges.

Donato has played the last few games with David Krejci. Both of them are technically centers — could we see Donato and Krejci playing with Rick Nash when the veteran winger is healthy? Good luck figuring out how to defend that line, and Boston’s Patrice Bergeron-Brad Marchand-David Pastrnak line, in the postseason.

Jim Irsay should feel confident Andrew Luck’s shoulder has ‘turned the corner’

It’s understandable if there is some hesitation to fully believe what Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay said about quarterback Andrew Luck during the NFL’s owners meetings on Monday in Orlando, Florida.

Irsay told reporters that “all indicators are healing is going really well” in nfl jerseys for cheap Luck’s continued rehabilitation from his January 2017 right shoulder surgery.

“We feel optimistic that he’s turned the corner and has a full decade ahead of him of excellence,” Irsay added.

That’s where the hesitation with Irsay comes.

Remember, Irsay said on more than one occasion in 2017 that he thought Luck would be fine. The owner said shortly after the surgery that his franchise quarterback would be ready for the start of last season. Irsay talked about the topic again during the owners meetings at this time last year, and during an event at Butler University in June 2017 he referred to Luck’s surgery as a “simple labrum repair.” He even went as far as saying, just nine days prior to the start of the regular season, that he hoped Luck would play in Week 1 — despite the quarterback’s not having practiced in more than eight months. Luck ended up missing the entire 2017 season.

You know what?

Irsay and the rest of the Colts organization should “feel optimistic” that Luck has “turned the corner” in his rehab. Irsay, a person who can be over the top in his optimism at times, was being positive last year and saying what he hoped would happen with his quarterback’s rehab.

This year is different because there’s a firm belief throughout the organization that Luck will be ready for the 2018 season.cheap nfl jerseys The optimism increased once Luck returned from his six-week trip to the Netherlands to rehab his shoulder and went to southern California to work with throwing experts.

Colts GM Chris Ballard, who you can argue has been the most cautious when talking about Luck’s health status, said during the NFL scouting combine that he has no doubt that Luck will play in the coming season. It was also during the combine that Ballard said Luck will participate in the team’s offseason workouts, which start April 9.
