As of now, only one of the Kansas City Chiefs’ top six cornerbacks from last season has a contract with the team for 2018. Steven Nelson is the only one to survive the roster purge, at least to this point.

The Chiefs did acquire two veterans. Kendall Fuller will come from Washington in the trade involving quarterback Alex Smith, and David Amerson was signed as a free agent after being released by the Oakland Raiders.
Fuller and Amerson join Nelson at the top of Kansas City’s cornerback depth chart, at least at this point. The Chiefs have some younger, developmental corners. Among them is Keith Reaser, who played a lot in the final regular-season game last year against the Broncos.
General manager Brett Veach had some interesting things to say about Amerson last week at the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis. He indicated that the Chiefs didn’t necessarily sign Amerson to be a starter.
“I think he will add competition,” Veach said. “I think we will bring in guys that will compete and show up every day and get after it. Certainly, he has shown the ability. I think a couple years ago he was among the league leaders in [passes broken up],authentic nfl jerseys so he can play in this league. I think if he stays healthy and comes in with the right attitude, he will have a great shot.
“Certainly a tremendous talent coming out and had production at [North Carolina State]. And if you follow his career from a skills standpoint, he is a 6-foot corner. He is long and athletic. He has really good hips and can match at the top of routes. He has been a little inconsistent, been banged up a little. It was just one of those things where the Raiders decided to move on, and we evaluated his tape. We liked his skill set. I think there is still some development and growth he can reach, and we think he will have a shot in some press-man coverage.”
